What the Obama Administration thinks is a good idea...

In this blog by Barry Rubin who is the Director of the Global Research in International Affairs is stating how off base the Obama administration is for making a bond with the Muslim Brotherhood. He states "Get it? Al-Qaeda is bad because it wants to attack U.S. embassies, the World Trade Center, and the Pentagon.

BUT the Muslim Brotherhood is good! Because it merely wants to seize state power, transform Egypt into an Islamist state, rule almost 90 million people with an iron hand, back Hamas in trying to destroy Israel, overthrow the Palestinian Authority, help Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood overthrow the monarchy, and sponsor terrorism against Americans in the Middle East."

Rubin is warning people that just because the Muslim Brotherhood hasn't proven their hatred through a terrorist attack like 9/11 doesn't mean we should just trust them. The fact that Obama is welcoming the muslim brotherhood is equally as bad as Al-Qaeda. He even states further that Obama might think this is a good idea but the state department is probably horrified.

Why wait until they actually prove they are bad until we realize that they are just as bad as Al-Qaeda? Who wants to turn around in a couple years and realize that this relationship is detrimental to both Israel and the U.S?

  1. Yes, I completely agree with you and with Rubin, but I think that I can also understand the other side, even though I don't agree with it.
We believe in innocent until proven guilty, so in this case, the Muslim Brotherhood has yet to proven their "guilt" through terrorist acts.
But, if you look at history (communism in Russia, Nazism in Germany) there is a pattern, and it is silly to wait until they have proven that yes, they will kill a bunch of people.

  2. I agree with the idea of innocent until proven guilty and that the Muslim Brotherhood deserves this right as well. However, this idea says that we shouldn’t punish someone until they prove their guilt; it doesn’t say that we have to treat them like friends. The Muslim Brotherhood has not yet proven that they are going to be a danger for Israel and American citizens, and thus we shouldn't yet be treating them like the Nazis. On the flip side, they haven’t made it seem like they want to be our friends either- and thus I agree that America shouldn’t be allying with them at this point.

  3. As Naomi and Noah have already stated the United States has always believed that one is innocent until proven guilty. The Muslim Brotherhood may have a hidden agenda, but they have yet to provoke Israel or the United States. There is no reason to treat them like a terrorist organization when they have done nothing to deserve it. on the other hand Obama should feel no obligation to become best friends with the Brotherhood. They could easily become the enemy of the United States and Israel, so the situation should be treated delicately. I think that we should treat them with the respect they deserve while still holding them at ams length.
